Abstract: Russian President Vladimir Putin's “Great Eurasian Partnership” intends to seek a new regional structure and multinational cooperation in economy and safety. In essence, it is the Russian strategic defense deployment as a response to economic crisis and diplomatic isolation. The cooperation between Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and ASEAN and the current negotiations not only bring the meaningful elements to “Great Eurasian Partnership”, but also help improve the dominance of Russian over the process of regional integration. Great power relations, neighboring diplomacy, different regional and sub-regional collaborations, regional hot issues, and other multiple factors make Russia-ASEAN relations more complex and challenging. China should actively seek the connection between EEU, ASEAN and “One Belt and One Road”, maximize the strategic joints of such connection and the convergence points of interests, work with Russia to boost the bilateral, multilateral cooperation in the framework of “Great Eurasian comprehensive Partnership” to make a substantial progress and form a benign, interactive competition.
