Abstract: “Official nationality” was a conservatism thinking rising in the 1830s. It had significant influences on the developments of literature, history, etc, of the then Russia. However, because of ideological issue, this trend of thinking hadn’t caught the attention of the academic circle for a long time. Uvarov was the establisher of Russian “nationality”. He made a summary of the traits of Russian national culture in a specific background. According to Uvarov, “nationality” was based on Orthodoxy and Tsarist Autocracy; it was closely linked with the rise of Russian nationalism and it was a shaping of self image by the Russian authority in the first half of 19 th century.
